If there is one company who has been designing, building and releasing top quality hardware since the beginning, it has to be Joyetech. Any seasoned vaper is familiar with the Joyetech brand, they have been around for over a decade. Joyetech has brought us everything from pen kits, box mods, tanks and so much more. They are always at the front of the line when it comes to innovation while still bringing top quality product to the table. In late 2017 Joyetech released the rather small Espion box mod which was received very well. Now, roughly 6 months later they continue the Espion series and bring us the Joyetech Espion Silk Kit.

Joyetech Espion Silk Kit First Impressions
Joyetech has always done a very impressive job with designing functional and attractive pieces of hardware. It comes as no surprise that the Silk has at least one feature innovation that sets it apart from the other mods currently in their lineup.
The Silk is on the smaller side, at least half the size of the original Espion. This makes it a great contender for mid-range power and portability.
The screen on the device is small, fittingly so. Even with it being smaller, the bright LED lighting makes the screen very easy to read, even with low light conditions. Above the screen is the small firing button and below the screen is the up/down power buttons.
The key feature offered with the Silk is the thick rubber inlays throughout the device. These pieces of rubber that are attached to the device are said to be very soft and skin friendly.
While fairly basic in function, the Silk offers up a great portability option for vet vapers looking for something on the go or beginner vapers looking to upgrade to something newer with more power options.
Along with the Silk mod, the Kit also comes with the NotchCore atomizer. This is a new atomizer from Joyetech that uses their own Notch coils. These style of coils are not super popular but they have gathered a small following. Notch coils do not provide as great of flavor as compared to the Stainless Steel, Nichrome or other types of resistance wire.
Rather than disposable coil heads, the NotchCore notch coils come as just the coil with cotton passed through it. This allows for quick and easy switching of the coils, perahaps even rewicking old coils and saving for later use.
The NotchCore will be an upgrade in performance for newer vapers coming from starter kits and would be sufficient in providing a good experience.
Joyetech Espion Silk Kit Performance Highlights
The Espion is able to run up to a maximum of 80W of power or 100F-315F in temperature mode. The limitation in power will make this device more of an interest to newer vapers looking to upgrade and perhaps vets looking for a portable option.
Sitting inside of the Silk is a 2800mAh battery which is rechargeable via the included USB cable. Depending on the desired power settings the batter would likely need recharging at least once through the day.
Higher wattage vapers will want to make sure they carry the cable for this device as running it at close to max power will run the battery down in roughly 5-6 hours of semi-regular use.
Joyetech has done a good job with maintaining good performance levels with most of their devices. Firing response times should be pretty quick with the Silk, reaching the set wattage within less than a second.
Overall, the Silk is pretty basic in function and would serve as a great upgrade of a compliment to a growing collection. Performance is expected to be great as with all Joyetech products.
Joyetech Espion Silk Kit Final Thoughts
Joyetech has been around the block a good many times in this industry. They have made their name and have gained a reputation for devices that last. Most vapers have had some sort of experience with Joyetech products along the way and most will report positive feelings.
That said, the Silk is a pretty well-equipped device. Packed with common features, modes and safety measure, it offers all the benefits of a high wattage device in a low wattage compact package.
Choosing this device should prove to be a wise inventment.
