Are British Vapers Going to Get Rid of Article 20 After Brexit?

Brexit is here and the UK will be soon enough no longer part of the European Union. Many people in this country with more than 250,000 e-cig users might be wondering –amongst many other uncertainties- if leaving the EU also means getting rid of the Article 20 of the Tobacco Product Directive (TPD) recently implemented in all European territories.
All European vapers (including British) have been fighting TPD regulations as the suggested regulations seem to be unfair and completely outdated. The TPD was written months before there was scientific evidence of vaping being safer than regular cigarettes. However, politicians in Brussels did not really bother to change the TPD according to new evidence.

Fortunately, the UK attitude towards e-cigarettes and vaping has had a drastic turn around since 2010 when they were nearly banned. The UK have had many campaigns and influential professionals realise statements in the press praising the advantages and long term benefits of vaping and how the devices help smokers quit their life-threatening habit. Based on the UK’s actions towards vaping over the last few months, one would hope that this sets a positive future pathway for the decisions that the UK will make as they start the process of leaving the EU.

Perhaps the best hope, for the time being, is to hope the UK government lives up to its promise to implement the TPD in a more relaxed style than it usually does for the sake of millions of vapers. Even though we can hope and be pretty sure that the laws and taxes will not be as harsh in the UK as in other EU territories, business may become more difficult for vaping vendors.

Although most devices are manufactured in China, payments are processed in USD $ and since the GBP £ has plummeted. And this has made buying more expensive. This will have a direct impact on everyone buying from your local round the corner, at least until the British pound stabilizes after this moment of economical and political uncertainty.

With all of this being said, there is nothing any of us can do but wait and see what the UK decide and see how it will effect both individuals and businesses and as a consequence, the industry as a whole. So come on England make a smart decision for once and keep on vaping!
