Now summer is over, you may be thinking about Christmas trips or even next year’s travel plans. So what happens to your e-cigs when you’re jet setting around the world? Can you take your vaping device on the plane with you? What about your e-liquids, can they come too? We have done a little bit of digging to help answer these questions!

can you fly with your e-cigarette

Let’s start off with some good news. According to the Transportation Security Administration, you can bring your electronic cigarette and all the supplies with you – BOTH as carry-on or checked luggage. Although it is probably better to keep in your hand luggage, if the airline confiscates your device you aren’t there to explain what it is. You’ll be surprised how many people still don’t know what vaping is!

Another point to consider is, regardless of where you pack your electronic cigarettes, ALWAYS separate the battery and the cartridge. This will make going through security sooo much easier, especially if you separate the two and send them through the X-ray scanner with your keys, change, watch, wallet, etc – unless you like getting searched of course!

A few more rules you should be aware of are:
  1. Vaping isn’t allowed on the plane itself, and is considered “smoking” by most airlines. They include e-cigs in the same rules to prevent any concerns from other passengers during the flight.
  2. Using an electronic cigarette whilst in the terminal depends on where you’re flying from. Some prohibit them as they do smoking, some don’t. Other airports have designated smoking areas which you can also used for vaping but kind of defeats the point….
Onto your tasty e-liquid. You’ll be please to know that there are no specific rules for the e-juice, just the usual liquid one that they have to be under 3.4 ounces or 100ml. Just remember the 3-1-1!

travel with e-cig

There is no need to draw attention to yourself by declaring your e-liquid but if you do raise an eyebrow, or worse two, simply explain it is nicotine (or not) e-liquid for your e-cigs, they should know what you are on about!

One last tip; in the unlikely event that you can’t take your e-cig with you, a really good recommendation is to take a self-addressed envelope with you so you can post it back to yourself – can’t have those expensive mods going to waste! Always better to be safe than sorry.

On the whole you should be fine to fly with your e-cigarette and all accessories in most airports. If you are still unsure or worried, you can simply call the airline you are flying with and ask for their rules about vape devices. That’s the flying part done, however when arriving in your destination it would be a good idea to check their laws about vaping all together. How annoying would it be to have gone through all the checkpoints smoothly but then not actually be able to vape because the country has banned it! Doing a bit of research beforehand could save you a lot of time and effort in the long-run and could result in a much more relaxed holiday!
